The Public Theater is thrilled to share a FREE Staged Reading Presentation of SWEAT, the “extraordinarily moving drama” (The New York Times) by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Ruined, Lynn Nottage. This is presented in association with Labyrinth Theater Company, the Miller Center, ReadingFilm, and the Greater Reading Alliance of Community Theatres (Genesius Theatre, Reading Civic Theatre and Reading Community Players), in collaboration with Fleetwood Community Theatre and Reading Theater Project. The one-night-only presentation is December 19, 2016, 7pm, at the Miller Center at Reading Area Community College.
With warm humor and tremendous heart, SWEAT tells the story of a group of friends who have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets and laughs while working together on the line of a factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in the hard fight to stay afloat.
Featuring the acting company fresh from their critically acclaimed New York run at The Public, directed by Kate Whoriskey (Ruined), this stunning new play is about the collision of race, class, family and friendship, and the tragic, unintended costs of community without opportunity.
